Liaison Librarians are tasked with adding materials appropriate to their areas. They may also make recommendations of materials outside of their areas to the appropriate liaison, using the Recommend a Purchase form.
Considerations for collection additions:
- relates to subject areas taught by the College
- interest in collecting fringe voices, new voices, and historically underrepresented voices
- interest in critical, issue-based work
- interest in work that is experimental in nature--graphically inventive, challenges notions of “the book,” etc.
- engages new technologies, multiple technologies, digital formats, multiple platforms
- engages varying forms of distribution, reading, and potential publics
- engages varying forms of bookmaking: techniques, production methods, and substrates
- provides teaching or research value for courses or individuals
- exemplifies historical materials and/or processes of art & design
- exemplifies material culture of historical significance
- expands the breadth or depth of existing collection in an area of high-usage
Special collections materials may include:
- Artists’ books and publication projects
- MICA alumni and faculty works
- Small press and literary press works
