The decision to rebind a worn-out volume is based on the frequency of use as well as the cost of a replacement copy, a later edition, or a different title with more recent information. In-house repairs are made whenever possible.

Other options include spiral binding for books where the format allows or complete rebinding by a commercial bindery.

In all cases, the Collection Maintenance & Preservation Technician in coordination with library liaisons determines if and how the item is to be handled.
